With our work transitioning from development to testing and marketing, we have shifted from Scrum based sprints to Kanban based iterations.  This post will cover the results and lessons from two Kanbans, 1.1 and 1.2.  As always, you can get all the details by from our weekly stand ups.

Review

Agile reviews are an opportunity to hold ourselves accountable by identifying how much of what we planned we actually completed.

Retrospective

Agile retrospectives are the means by which we “inspect and adapt”.  This is our chance to promote what works and adjust what does not.

What went well?

• Great first guest blog post
• Good use of research into moving businesses between states turned into huge time savings in the process (domestication vs reincorporation)
• Good use of inspect and adapt mid-iteration around use of social media when planned activities were not working
• Did a good job of sticking to PY19 goals of focusing on marketing and business (notice we did not claim done on any technical items in this iteration)
• Happy with how the testimonials page/How I Holoseat combo turned out
• Our unfinished work is predominantly items that were blocked or we reworked the plan (vs just things we did not get around to)

What did not go well?

• We really must improve how we go about doing social media and marketing
• Uneven distribution of workload due to extenuating circumstances

What can we do better?

• Bring a marketer on board
• Try moving to 2 stand ups per week during PY19 Kanban 2.1 and evaluate if this helps with workload distribution

We have 3 critical tasks this Kanban (relocate the business to Virginia, proceed with trademark work, and share Holoseat with Hackaday).  We are waiting on paperwork to come back from Virginia on the first and the second is in progress.  So, even though we missed a stand up and were late reporting this week, we are making good progress.  And, our testers continue to report positive experiences with Holoseat!

It is not an over-sell to call the Holoseat life-changing. I have always fought an uphill battle to stay in shape. We all know that a sedentary lifestyle is one that can lead to short and long term health complications, and it’s something that gamers — who spend a lot of time sitting — really should take seriously. Expensive gym subscriptions, bulky at-home exercise equipment, even just finding the energy or courage or whatever it is to get yourself to the desired location for exercising — whether it’s the gym or your basement — can be a real challenge.

Enter Holoseat

Holoseat changes all of that! That barrier to exercise is gone. This bike is literally in my way if I’m at the computer, and it basically forces me to exercise! Not only that, but it can actually enhance the experience of some games! It’s brilliant!

I have lost almost 15 lbs in 3 weeks and I’m not even deliberately scheduling time to exercise. It’s just there and I use it when I play games. I can’t advocate strongly enough for the Holoseat. Everyone who plays games should have one.

Spreading the Word

I am proud to be an Alpha Tester for Holoseat, and I want to do what I can to spread the word and show as many people as I can how awesome this thing really is! Beginning September 19th, I started streaming the game that in my opinion best utilizes and showcases the functionality of the Holoseat every Wednesday. That game is World of Warcraft and I am playing a Worgen (that’s like a wolf-man) Hunter. This exciting program shall be called: “Working Out With A Wargen In World of Warcraft” or: WoWaWiWoW!!!! Who could forget an acronym so succinct???
